How much does window tinting cost in Ontario?
At our Rosedale shop, front two windows start at $59.99 and an all-around package covering every window except the windshield is $99.99. Across the GTA generally, shops quote $150 to $250 for front windows and $400 to $800 for a full car, so it's worth comparing the same coverage before booking. Ask any shop whether their quote includes HST and old tint removal.
What is the legal tint limit in Ontario?
Front side windows must let more than 70% of light through — that's the combined figure for your factory glass plus the film, which catches people out because most modern glass already sits at 70 to 85%. Rear side windows and the rear windshield have no limit. Windshield tinting below the AS-1 line has been illegal since 1 January 2017. Fines run from $85 to $500.
How long does window tinting take?
About two hours for a standard car, a little longer for an SUV or if old film needs removing. You can wait at the shop — we're just off Queen St W near Hwy 410. Don't roll the windows down for two to three days while the film cures.
Ceramic or carbon tint — which should I get?
Ceramic rejects far more heat for the same shade and won't interfere with GPS, phone signal or tire pressure sensors. Carbon is cheaper and still blocks UV well. For Ontario summers in a car that sits in the sun, ceramic is the one worth paying for.
